Georgia Writers Peptalk Series – The Finale

Welcome to the final peptalk in the Georgia Writers Peptalk series.

“Art is a fruit that grows in man, like a fruit on a plant, or a child in its mother’s womb.” – Lillian Smith

We have a few days left. Write write write. Write to hit that goal. Write to finish that story. If you’re all finished, write a new story. Write write write. Make that art yours.

Frank Yerby once said, “When it was over, it was not really over, and that was the trouble.” He very well could have been talking about writing a novel in a month. You might very well find yourself like me and so many others where you haven’t finished the story yet. The daily reminder to write may go away in December along with the regular peptalks, but writers write. And we’re writers. So we’re going to write, and keep writing. Finish that story. Edit that story. Rewrite that story. Publish that story.

And when you publish it, let us know so we can buy copies 😀 We’ll start up a forum thread for anyone who has published one of the novels they wrote during National Novel Writing Month in Atlanta and keep a page on our regional website with them.

The forums will still be around. The website will still be around. The chatroom will still be around. The community will still be around. If you want to get a regular writers group going at one of your favorite write in spots/times, post about it! Last year several writers groups spread out of NaNoLanta 2010.

It’s been a great month. Record setting for Atlanta as a matter of fact. Our highest wordcount ever, our highest donation amount ever, and as I write this we still have 4 days left to go. Thank you for such a great month. Thanks for being part of this grand experiment in insanity known as National Novel Writing Month. And thank you for reading all the peptalks I wrote 😀

We have a couple of things to mention –

a) Our TGIO Party info has been posted. It’s a time to celebrate the month being over, share some of what we wrote, and have fun without the laptop screens impacting our conversations. Check out the details here – Hope to see you at one of them!

b) Wednesday night we are having a write in till midnight at the Georgia Diner in Duluth. Details here –

c) And if you haven’t donated yet, please please consider donating this year. There’s still time in November for it to count for the Donation Derby, but they also take donations all year. Without your support, none of this could happen and won’t happen next year without that same support. Thank you!
